Our story
Tradition you can taste
Kay's Italian restaurant has a rather unique history. The train-like dining room is an old diner manufactured between 1917-1921 by Jerry O'Mahony of Elizabeth New Jersey. Walter Woehrle the owner first laid eyes on this diner in 1983. After some time it was purchased and a 13 month project was underway.
Walters father Willard Woehrle helped with much of the work. You can see him as well as Catherine Woehrle on the front of the menu. The picture was taken shortly after Willard was discharged following the end of WW2. He served in the U.S. Army 49th Combat Engineers and went ashore minus 6 minutes prior to the main D-Day invasion, to clear the way of many obstacles. Our family is proud of his service as well as the hard work Catherine and him put in. If it where not for the bricks that where laid before us we would most certainly be walking a different road today. From our family to yours.
Thank You....
